Painting Your Own Book Pages

Have you seen the old book page art floating around on pinterest? I finally decided to give it a try and now I am addicted to painting on old book pages! It has so much character and could go in any home. The best part about it... the simpler the painting/art the better it can look.

Supplies:

I found this old book at an antique store... it was regular $3.00 but the vendor had everything 50% off that day so I purchased it for $1.50. Be careful when looking at old books at antique stores... some are very expensive. But they can be cheaper if you find a book with an unrecognizable title.

I used a pen to trace out my picture first then colored it in with watercolor paints - I believe acrylic would work just as fine as well! It's okay if your paint doesn't cover up all the words... it looks cute with them showing through.

I am obsessed with birds lately.

I did these free hand but if you had a Cricut this would be a really easy project by cutting out simple stencils, words, pictures or designs. Maybe if you printed something off of clip art/google you could put the printed paper underneath the book page and see the lines to trace and follow beneath it. Just an idea.

I was playing around with fruit, too. I think these would be just perfect in the kitchen. Even better if you found an old cookbook to paint fruit on.

Here are my first two paintings in frames. I just love them!

It would be really easy to play around with this concept. Like I mentioned earlier you could paint images on old cookbooks for the kitchen, paint on old children book's for a kids room, or I've even seen people use old music sheets (which if I ever find old music sheets I will be doing that too!). Any pictures or design would work. Just play around with it and have fun!
