St. Patrick's Day Wreath Tutorial

I recently found a picture of a St. Patrick's Day wreath on Pinterest that I fell in love with... but I couldn't find a website or tutorial anywhere so... I just made my own tutorial using the picture as my guide.

Here are the materials... a wreath form (I used a straw one because it was cheaper but I think a styrofoam one would be easier when wrapping it with yarn), yarn, wired ribbon (for the bow), and pieces of felt (I bought two pieces of each color of green just in case I made a mistake and needed extra). The whole craft cost me around $10.00 to make.

Feel free to use my Amazon suggested links below: {I am an Amazon affiliate which means if you purchase anything from my lists, I will get a tiny portion back. I only include things I personally have purchased and love!!!}

Supplies:

I left the clear wrap on the wreath form while wrapping the yarn because I thought it would make it easier instead of having straw falling out everywhere. Just use hot glue to glue the initial strand onto the form and then start wrapping. You don't have to stop and glue on this project. Just wrap... and wrap....

 and keep wrapping...

Until you get to the end and hot glue the last piece down onto the form to finish it off. The wrapping is can be time consuming, just wrap the yarn while cleaning up your DVR.

Then I made a shamrock tracer using a piece of cardboard. I made each leaf in the shape of a heart. You could print something off the internet to use to trace and cut as a stencil.

After cutting out your shamrocks use hot glue to attach it to the yarn wrapped wreath.

 Here are all the shamrocks cut and glued. Some of the shamrocks are not perfect by any means  and some of the straw is showing through the straw... As my mom would say, "Those are happy mistakes." It gives the wreath character.

Then cut out strands of yarn to make an "X" over each of the shamrocks. Hot glue the strands behind the wreath as you work. This will keep it in place as it's moved around.  Some "X"s look different and that's okay. If you are a little more of a perfectionist you could work a little longer in making them look identical.

Here are all my X's complete.  Like my crafting director's chair? :) I found it at a thrift store for $5.00 dollars!

When finished attach your wired ribbon and hang on the door!

I finished it in two evenings. The yarn wrapping took the longest but it was kind of relaxing for me. I think it was all worth it and the end product is just perfect! You could do this with any season... for Valentine's day instead of shamrocks you could make hearts or for Easter you could do colored eggs. You could also change up the yarn color and size of the wreath for different looks.
