DIY Fabric Covered Vanity Stool or Chair

When we bought our first home the master bathroom was (and still is) gorgeous. The homeowners actually opted out of the jacuzzi, which comes standard in most homes now, and that left us with an open floor plan in the master bathroom. This includes room for a "his and hers" side of the bathroom. Mine has useful pull-out drawers (instead of cabinets) and a long vanity (I had always wanted one). Immediately I took to finding a vanity stool for my little pampering space... It wouldn't be me without a little DIY.

I found my vanity stool at a thrift store for $3.99. It was in great condition and I even liked the color of the wood. I had found plenty others beforehand but many were either wobbly or scratched from kids or pets.

It fit my vanity space perfectly but was not that comfortable so... I headed off to a local fabric store and bought some foam and a fabric that went with the home. We already owned a staple gun, those things sure do come in handy!

I laid the stool top-down on the foam and traced it with a pen.

Here you can see the outline of the stool. It just barely fit. I figured it wouldn't be that noticeable.

Then I snipped away with a good set of scissors.

Then I wrapped the top of the stool with the fabric and with the help of my husband started stapling the fabric to the chair. I needed the extra hand as we pulled and held the fabric tightly in place to staple. If there was a wrinkle or something we simply removed the staple and tried again.

If you leave the fabric long enough the corners/edges will be easier. Then when you are finished stapling you could cut away the extra fabric. No one will see the bottom so don't worry about perfection here.

I love how it turned out. I've had it for 3 years now and the fabric is still holding up great. I like the idea of getting to change out the fabric/print if I ever decide to. What is one of your favorite DIY projects?
