Installing Your Own Faux Drawers

I love my kitchen, like a lot! I made a lot of changes to the floor plan and had my builder put things where I wanted in order to get a bigger pantry. There were a couple of things I did not have the builder do because it wasn't worth the cost. This included cabinet hardware (knobs and drawer pulls) the faux drawers that go under the sink, and the light pendants that hang over the island. I'm going to share how my husband and I installed the faux drawers under our kitchen sink. Our builder was going to charge at least $100 a drawer, if I remember correctly, and that was money I wanted to put elsewhere! These cost $9.98 each, so I saved over $180 doing it myself!

The first thing you will need to do is remove the faux drawer front from the sink basin. We used a blade to cut around the drawer front and through the caulk that the builder used. Then My husband used a flathead screwdriver to loosen the contact between the drawer front and the interior mount. He made sure to loosen the drawer front on all four sides so that he wouldn't damage the actual cabinet.

The next step was removing the pieces of wood that attached the drawer front to the cabinet. We just used the flathead screwdriver again to pry them off.

While I scraped off the excess caulk with my blade from the drawer front and from the actual cabinet, Hubby began installing the hardware onto the drawer front. Make sure that you install your screws for the trays before you install the drawer front into your cabinet.

I would recommend measuring everything out before you start drilling into your drawer front and into your cabinet, but my husband eyeballed it. He lined up the hardware in the cabinet and then lined up where the drawer front needed to fall and marked the inside of it with a pencil. For touch-ups we went to Home Depot with one of our drawer fronts to match the cabinet color because they are antiqued. I was initially worried about this thinking it wouldn't be possible to find paint to match, but once the paint dried you couldn't even tell!

We didn't need to make any adjustments after everything was installed and now there are no more sponges on the counter! Naturally, I noticed that the two drawer fronts weren't even, but in looking at the 'Before' picture the builder actually installed them that way.
