Zachary's Prehistoric First Birthday Gift - Radio Flyer with Custom Decals

It's my favorite little guy's 1st birthday and I cannot believe it's already been a year since he was born! Zachary is my close friend, Kristi's, son! When Zach was born I worked long and hard on a stuffed Hobbes for him since that's his dad's favorite comic. Wanting to stick with that theme, I decided that we would get Zach a Radio Flyer for his 1st birthday, which I bought on Amazon along with the awesome book, Friday My Radio Flyer Flew, by Zachary Pullen!! I envisioned Calvin and Hobbes decals all around the wagon, unfortunately I did not have a device that would let me upload my own images*...so on to the next idea! Zach's 1st birthday theme is dinosaurs so I knew that I could put dinosaurs all around the wagon.

*This is now possible with the updated Cricut and Silhouette software

Supplies:

Step one was to put the wagon together, lucky for me hubby was back in town and willing to help out! While he worked on assembling the Radio Flyer, I searched for the right dinosaur on Cricut.com. After I found the one I liked I almost bought the digital cartridge for $19.99 until I realized I could just subscribe to the Cricut Image Library for one month for $9.99. This gave me access to over 25,000 images and 200 fonts, the best part is if you know what cartridge you want there is a link to what is available with the subscription (By the way, I'm not sponsored in any way by Cricut, I just like the product and I LOVE saving money). Before I cut on vinyl, I always cut on cardstock until I have found the size that I like, this way I'm not wasting any of my vinyl.

After I got the size I wanted I cut out all of the dinosaurs and tracks that I was going to need and started placing them on the wooden pieces that attach to the wagon.

Once I stuck everything on, I realized I needed to add Zach's name to the back of the wagon. I used transfer tape, which is awesome if you've never tried it! You can seal your decals with mode lodge spray or just leave them so you can peel them off later and update the decals to something else.

Before we attached the wooden pieces I flipped over the wagon and signed the bottom of it with a silver sharpie.

The time came to pack up the wagon and of course it did not fit in the car assembled so we had to finish assembling it in the parking lot outside of the party.

Here we are with Zach at his party! I adore this little guy so much!!

It was fun to see them use the wagon to tote the gifts out.
