When my friend, Kristi, was pregnant with Zach, her husband, Josh, came up with the cutest idea to have a Calvin and Hobbes themed nursery. Josh grew up loving Calvin and Hobbes and wanted to share that love with their son. They mentioned wanting to look online to see if they could buy Zach his very own Hobbes plush and that’s where I come in! Of course I volunteered to try to make one myself and lucky for me I found a great how to here from instructables! By the way, I love this picture! It’s like Zach and Hobbes are in cahoots over something!
Supplies:
- 1/3 yard Orange Fleece
- 1/4 yard Black Fleece
- 1/4 yard White Fleece
- Two Black Buttons (I found some with slits in the middle that looked like eyes)
- Polyester Stuffing
- Black thread (I used cross stitch thread)
- Thimble
My suggestion…follow seamster’s directions step-by-step! He mentions in the beginning how he wishes he would have hand stitched Hobbes’ white belly instead of using the sewing machine, so I made sure to hand stitch mine. And most importantly print out the PDF he has attached to cut out your pattern to size.
I started working on Hobbes January of last year in hopes of having him done by the time Zach was born that March, unfortunately with work and other commitments it took me much longer than I expected. If I would have dedicated 3-4 days to making Hobbes, I could have gotten it done in that time. Mind you I would have had very sore fingers, hence the reason for the thimble!
But can I say, when I finally gave Hobbes to Josh he couldn’t have been happier! I love that Hobbes is always at Zach’s special events, like his first birthday.
Here’s a picture of the Zach’s nursery! Josh went and got one of his favorite pictures blown up so it could be hung above the crib.
I cannot wait for the year Zach dresses up as Calvin for Halloween!! You can bet I’ll share it here and update this post! Be sure to check out the Radio Flyer Wagon I made for Zach on his 1st Birthday!
