Wine Cork Garden Markers

A couple weeks ago I started up my garden again. I was out of control at the garden center… I came home with 6 different tomatoes, eggplant, all kinds of peppers (jalapeno, bell, poblano), 3 types of squash, cucumber, green leafy lettuces and a mini herb garden. Now that everything is planted and settled in I wanted to create some garden markers to help me distinguish between them until they have started producing. I used wine corks and skewers to create these garden markers and I already had the materials on hand.

All you need is a package of cooking skewers, a handful of wine corks and a black permanent marker.

On each wine cork I wrote all the different types of plants that were in my garden…

…and then stuck them with a wooden skewer. I just went in about 1/2 an inch. These suckers feel pretty secure. I thought about cutting the skewers down a little bit but liked the thought of adjusting the height of them once they were in the garden and the plants started to grow.

Finally, position them next to their appropriate plants. Here are a couple of mine…

…patty pan squash (this is a new one for me this year!)…

…ghost pepper! I told my husband to go get a plant he might like and he came back with this one. This pepper is the whole reason we have the plant markers haha!

This took me only minutes to make and I love how it looks in the garden. No more guessing games, especially when it comes to the squash… before they start producing they all look the same! I can’t wait to have a home cooked meal picked right from the garden. That’s my favorite part. Now to come up with some crafts to keep the birds from eating my tomatoes this year…

Do you have a garden?
