DIY Monster Dress-Up Shirt

Our school is celebrating Red Ribbon Week with a different dress up for each day. Today was monster day. My friends (my kindergarten team) and I needed a quick and easy costume that wouldn't break the bank. Here are our monster shirts and the kids LOVED them!

We each used one white, black and blue piece of felt. Felt squares are cheap! Our costumes cost us about $1.00 to make.

I cut the circles for the girls using a pot lid, a paper towel roll and a cat food bowl. Each circle gets smaller and smaller. I used a scrap piece of white to create the small white glare in the eye, too! We glued these pieces of felt together with hot glue.

We all wore a solid colored shirt that we already had, and attached the eye to our shirt using a safety pin. That's right, no sewing! We LOVE using this safety pin idea because we can use the shirts for other dress up days and make new "add ons" as the dress up days change each year. It's an easy way to save and store our little costumes too. If you're a teacher,  you know what I'm talking about.

These shirts turned out so adorable! The kids loved them, too. We all created a mouth using the leftover black and white felt to create the monster mouths. Here is a picture of us posing like our mouths on the shirts.

Megan, one of the teachers, create our headbands using only pipe cleaners. She attached the red ones together to fit the persons head then swirled some silver pipe cleaners at the top to create the look of antennas (or whatever that is called that a monster has on it's head!). These little headbands stayed put all day!

We have fun dressing up as a team. Last year we were "Fox in Socks" by Dr. Seuss and I blogged about the headband ears here. We have so much fun!

Have you found your Halloween costume yet? 3 more days!
