I cannot stand to see my cats’ litter box, but living so close to a major highway really leaves us no choice in keeping them inside. Several years ago when we first got Phoebe and Tobias I found a post about using an Ikea box and hinges to create a litter box container it served us well for a long time, but it was finally time for an upgrade.

Home Sweet Home Vinyl Window Sign
I am so excited to show off my new toy, the Silhouette Cameo. My family chipped in together to give it to me for Christmas. This machine is AMAZING. They found it on the Silhouette website on Black Friday and the bundle came with a starter tool kit, 1 month of free designs, the vinyl starter kit and Silhouette Mint (that post is coming!). I found the sketch pens at Hobby Lobby and bought them with my 40% off coupon but am excited to learn how to use other pen brands (such as Sharpie) with the different pen holders I also found.
My first craft was a vinyl Home Sweet Home sign for the antique window displayed in my living room. I can’t wait to show you how I did it with some simple beginner step by steps for your first Cameo cut.
Laundry Room Makeover: Washer and Dryer Storage
My laundry room is getting closer and closer to exactly how I want it to look! When we were building the house, the builder insisted on installing the washer and dryer outlets at pedestal height even though I didn’t have a washer and dryer with pedestals. Well I hated it! Lesson learned don’t let someone talk you into something you don’t need or want. I enlisted my husband and dad’s help to make a shelving unit and mantel piece that would cover up the unsightly outlets.
Wedding Date Sign
This weekend my sister and I went to the antique mall to look around. We passed by some fun looking wooden painted numbers that I instantly thought would be great to have in the master bedroom to signify an anniversary date. I dug through the tub and couldn’t find all numbers that I needed. Then the idea came to me to try and make my own numbers so we stopped at Michaels on the way home and grabbed everything I needed.
Build Your Own Fire Pit
My husband and I have been working this past week on giving our backyard a little TLC. It has been raining so much here in Texas these past couple months that we haven’t been able to keep up with things like usual. After a weekend of weeding, pruning, cleaning and planting we decided to reward ourselves with a new fire pit. We’ve tried the metal fire pits or the clay chimineas but have had them break and rust so much that we decided to make one out of stone.
Ruffled Lamp Shade DIY
It’s been pouring here in Fort Worth, Texas. Tropical Storm Bill made it through our area dropping 4″ – 6″ of rain through the DFW metroplex. Rainy days make for the perfect craft days. I turned an old lampshade into something fresh and new with a no sew way to apply fabric. You only need 3 materials, all of which I already had, and some time set aside to make this lovely little ruffled lamp shade.
IKEA Hack: Hidden Jewelry Storage
I was desperately looking for a place to store all of my jewelry. While shopping at IKEA I saw this awesome mirror, the Stave, that was being sold with hinges. I quickly realized how brilliant it would be to use this mirror to store jewelry! So here is my very own IKEA hack! For another great closet organization idea heck out my Closet Space Saver post or Rachel’s Simple Scarf or Belt Hanger!
Pottery Barn Mirror Knock Off
I recently purchased a large used mirror off of one of Facebook’s buy/sell/trade groups. The mirror is HUGE and very heavy and only cost me $10.00. I brought it home and hung it up but quickly realized it needed a major makeover.
Letterpress Drawer as Trinket Shelf
Have you seen those large letterpress drawers at antique stores? They are fairly inexpensive… I see them pretty consistently from $20-$30. Elisabeth and her family showed me how to use them as a trinket shelf in your home and I’ve shared this unique idea with my own family. Here are several pictures of letterpress drawers used as little trinket shelves.
Antique Lamp as Tiki Torch
I can’t wait to share with you my favorite craft to date… turning an old antique oil lamp into a stylish tiki torch. I find oil lamps at antique and thrift stores ALL the time. I have always thought they were neat but never knew what to do with them… until now.
